Surprisingly Loss Can Be Our Greatest Gift

As we make our way out of the pandemic years it is clear that no one could have predicted the situation we found ourselves in. Separated from family and friends, many of us are even having to cope with not seeing our own children during times of quarantine and isolation.

While there is no denying we’ve all lived through a crisis, I am very sure that we will grow and change through this experience in ways we cannot imagine today.

Like many of you, I have been through several crisis in my life. Divorce in itself is a crisis that challenges your definition of reality. Things you took for granted are suddenly gone. Dreams, expectations and plans you made no longer seem feasible.

I went through a “perfect storm” of tragedy in 2013 which started with the end of my marriage, followed by the death of my mother 3 weeks later and then immediately after that a life threatening diagnosis requiring emergency surgery.

Loss is something I know very well. Loss however has been an amazing gift in my life which has shown me how resilient we are as human beings. How the very reality we are sure will be the end of us, turns out to be the biggest gift of our life.

Through loss we learn what is really important! We no longer take for granted the simple things in life and we learn that while our destiny isn’t 100% in our control, we always have choices and options.

What is going on in the world at the moment is no one’s fault but it is each of our responsibility to deal with it the best way possible.

Are you going to be the person who sits back as a victim and takes what comes or the person who stands up and looks for ways to impact your future in a positive way?

Now is an unprecedented period where you have time, time like never before to think about your future. To reflect on what you really want to achieve in life. To create your vision for the type of relationship and partner you want to share all of life’s ups and downs with.
